Before you book

A few useful answers.

Start with the experience you want, then choose the right base.

Is Maggie Valley a good base for the Smokies?

Yes, especially for local tours, Wheels Through Time, the Parkway via Soco Gap and a creekside stay. Cherokee is more convenient for an itinerary dominated by Oconaluftee and Newfound Gap Road.

Do I need a car?

A car is the practical choice for this spread-out valley and its mountain sights. The featured tours depart locally, but they are individual outings rather than a complete transport service.

How long should I stay?

Book three nights for an arrival evening and two full sightseeing days. Add another night to give Cataloochee Valley its own outing.

Are the Jeep and UTV trips the same?

No. The Jeep includes a driver-guide; the UTV normally has you driving behind the guide, with specific license, insurance and age requirements.
